Marti Readling Estes was the daughter of Rodney and Betty Sue Readling. She and her sister, Susanne, grew up with their family in Davidson. After attending Appalachian State University, Marti got a job teaching Kindergarten at Huntersville Elementary. She married Eric Estes and they moved to Mooresville.
Marti and Eric have two children, Bryce and Hayden who both attend schools in Mooresville. Marti was focused on raising her family and enjoyed volunteering in both her sons’ classrooms.
Marti was an avid runner in our community. She enjoyed running with friends and did so many times a week. Marti also enjoyed running and walking in races that benefited many different organizations. She ran the Marine Corps Marathon and she also walked a 50 mile walk for Multiple Sclerosis.
More than anything Marti was an active member of First Presbyterian Church. She served the church in many ways. Marti was a Deacon, she taught Sunday school, she served in the nursery as well as worked on many committees. She attended the Sisters in Christ women’s circle and helped prepare meals for people who were sick or who had lost loved ones. Marti was willing to serve the Lord in any way that she was asked to and always did so lovingly.
Shortly after Clay Brown became pastor of First Presbyterian Church – Mooresville, he challenged the Diaconate to come up with a God-sized project that would benefit our greater community outside of our church membership. The Deacons decided that this event would be the perfect opportunity to honor Marti. To date, the Marti Estes 5K Community Walk of Faith has distributed funds to local charities totaling over $63,500 in just four years years.

We will be offering local community businesses the opportunity to sponsor the event in several ways, with varying levels of fiscal participation. The race committee has provided numerous opportunities to reach over 620 participants with packages ranging from $50 – $1,500.
